Hope you all had a fabulous holiday season. Peter and I had some friends over for dinner on Christmas eve which was lovely. Unfortunately we woke up on Christmas day with a pretty bad cold that lasted all week. Sadly we were unable to do some things we had planned for Peter’s vacation, but we can surely say we are now very well rested. After many, many days of sleep, vitamin C and chicken soup it is safe to say we are almost back to our old selves.
Since we were still recovering a bit on New Years Eve we decided to spend the night at home and avoid partying. We had a pretty quiet night, made dinner, and watched t.v. At midnight we went up on our roof deck watched all the fireworks around the city. It was CRAZY! We have never, ever, ever seen so many fireworks in our lives. With a 360-degree view we watched fireworks of all shapes, sizes and colors go off for about 40 minutes. They were everywhere – from far off in the distance to right by our house – our neighbors we shooting fireworks off right on our street (Apparently people go to Belgium and buy fireworks and bring them back - although we saw them for sale here as well). At some point the whole thing became surreal - there was too many fireworks to see them all. After a while it started to sound like a war zone (poor Mr. Kitty was hiding in my closet) and the air became think with the smell of sulfur and smoke. As we walked around the city today (New Years Day) there was red paper and fireworks littering the streets everywhere.
Other than that all is going well here in Amsterdam. Peter is getting on really well at 180 and I have been busy doing some writing for a couple travel websites and start interviewing for full time jobs this week. There has not been too much rain since I last wrote - thank goodness – but it did snow a little a couple weeks ago. Amsterdam in the snow looks like a fairytale. All the bridges sparkling with snow – so beautiful! And while riding your bike in the rain is not that much fun, riding your bike in the snow is quite lovely. Peter and I were like giddy giggling children riding home from dinner in the snow one night. But the snow was short lived and is all gone for now. I do hope we get to see it again…
Anyway, that is about it for us. Just wanted to send a note and wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year and best wishes for 2008! We love you and miss you…
XOXO,
Ri and Peter
